I did decide to go through my interests in alphabetical order, but I'm skipping "baby" since the purpose of this exercise is to write about other things. But, the next couple are still baby-related, so bear with me.
I lamented in the past about my frustration with cutesy pastel baby clothes, and the dearth of cute options for baby boys. The Monkey's rapid rate of growth has fast forwarded us into the much wider array of toddler options. Of course, no sooner had he outgrown the 0-9 mo. infant range than Target introduced organic infant clothes, so I'm bummed we never got to try those. We have settled into some favorites though:
- H&M, infant, toddler and beyond in a super soft cotton and all sorts of bright and fun colors. Great onesies, shirts and bright light-weight cargo pants (we have yellow & lime green).
- American Apparel, soft and American-made organic t-shirts and an around-the-house favorite, karate pants.
- And we round out the wardrobe with Carters rompers for the hottest summer days (I would kill for AA to make rompers! I did pick up one at babystyle.) and of course the occasional obnoxious Target tshirts (see bottom pic) or cargo shorts (just picked some up on clearance this week).
- Old Navy fleece was a winter favorite, and we like their jeans and overalls (middle pic), but I haven't shopped there lately. The ON bermuda shorts sported in the bottom pic were a resale shop find by my mom.
Because the Monkey's bum is a larger size than he is length-wise, his shorts look more like capri pants. Which works out great for keeping his knees protected while he's crawling around! Oh, and last but not least, we're liking Bobux shoes now, especially these breathable sneakers for summer.
I was ordering some American Apparel for Owen for Christmas, and was browsing the women's selections. In addition to the ubiquitous fashion-accessory-of-the-year leggings, they are also selling legwarmers, unitards and stirrup tights. Truly frightening!
Some other fun baby stuff I've come across lately:
- sk8er attire - can't wait to buy O's first boardshorts next summer
- celebrity-approved crib rock and droopy knickers
- OC-made havin's tees
- baby legs - (speaking of leggings...) so adorable, I picked up a pair for Owen as well as for his cousin. hopefully his daddy doesn't find them too girly (it's not like i got them matching pink ones).
This is another post, but I can't stand plastic baby toys. So I've started scoping out sources for cool toys, wood toys, soft toys, construction toys, etc. Anya'sMom, this one's for you.
Anyone have other favorite online baby boutiques to feed my (mostly just browsing) obsession?
Okay, that's an obnoxious name but it's the first that popped into my head just now. My newest idea is to open a baby boutique solely for boys' clothes. Or maybe it would be co-ed but pink and blue would be banned. It drives me crazy that the girls clothing sections are vastly larger than boys. In our local boutique/resale shop, there is a big main room full of pink girly clothes, then a small side room that is still only half for boys, and half shoes. Even in stores like old navy and gap, there's so little selection for boys. Why do retailers think moms of boys are less likely to spend money on clothes than moms of girls?
My other baby clothes pet peeves:
- clothes that make your baby into an animal (and the impossibility of buying clothes that don't have some animal on them - yes teddy bears are cute, but maybe Owen's not in a bear mood *every* day)
- clothes that have to explain that the wearer is, in fact, a baby
- the limited color choices outside of blue, pink and yellow for infants
If I could sew, I'd start my own line of simple, afordable baby clothes - tshirts, leggings, etc.- in contemporary solid colors. It can't possibly cost $30 to make a little baby tshirt. I do love babystyle's collection, I just wish it came in more and brighter colors.
i really can't justify spending $50 on something he'll outgrow in a month and get poop stains on in a day... but this is cute:
