just for jocks
Okay, that's an obnoxious name but it's the first that popped into my head just now. My newest idea is to open a baby boutique solely for boys' clothes. Or maybe it would be co-ed but pink and blue would be banned. It drives me crazy that the girls clothing sections are vastly larger than boys. In our local boutique/resale shop, there is a big main room full of pink girly clothes, then a small side room that is still only half for boys, and half shoes. Even in stores like old navy and gap, there's so little selection for boys. Why do retailers think moms of boys are less likely to spend money on clothes than moms of girls?
My other baby clothes pet peeves:
- clothes that make your baby into an animal (and the impossibility of buying clothes that don't have some animal on them - yes teddy bears are cute, but maybe Owen's not in a bear mood *every* day)
- clothes that have to explain that the wearer is, in fact, a baby
- the limited color choices outside of blue, pink and yellow for infants
If I could sew, I'd start my own line of simple, afordable baby clothes - tshirts, leggings, etc.- in contemporary solid colors. It can't possibly cost $30 to make a little baby tshirt. I do love babystyle's collection, I just wish it came in more and brighter colors.

You linked to the gap one piece pj's with the teddy bears. I actually love those (not because of the bear although it is really unobtrusive and hardly noticeable), but because they seem really comfortable and thicker than a lot of the baby pj's out there, without being too over the top.
Pet peeve second only to Disney characters is the combo of "baby" and a bear. This past season Target had a few items for boys that we received multiple variations on that exclaimed "Baby" & "1,2,3" with a bear. How I dreaded opening gifts from those who didn't know my distaste of the aforementioned. Innevitably it would always be this "Baby", "1,2,3" bear thing from Target.
I managed to escape 2 of 3 of the outfits vis gift receipts but I had to keep one as it was from..... my MOM! Why do people buy things they want to see on your kid instead of what you want?
Another complaint to add, if I may, is the lack of some really cute items in sizes under 12 mos. I find many cute things at Target that I would love for my infant to wear but alas they only come in 12 mos. or larger.
It annoys me to no end that the girls' section is always so much bigger, too. But pretty much everything for the girls is pink, and although I must admit I love picking those things out for my neice, if I ever have a daughter, she will NOT wear pink (at least not very often). The sad fact is that boys clothes are SOOO much better now than they used to be -- just look back at pics of your brother or husband to see what the choices used to be! My Mom said that, as far as the clothes shopping situation went, she was a little disappointed that we were having a boy at first b/c she remembered how bad the selection of infant boys' clothes was when my brother was a baby, but then when she saw what was out there now, she was pleasantly surprised...of course, this is the woman who plans on dressing my son in a Santa suit on Christmas Day...help!
I don't mind the animals on the outfits (I figure when can you dress them in cute things with teddy bears or puppies on them if you don't do it while they're babies?), but I definitely agree with refraining from dressing them as animals (except for Halloween, of course).
